Intensive Support Program: A Strategic Approach to Structuring Self-Contained Classrooms (Room 106 first floor)

Every year we find that students have more challenging behaviors and higher needs than experienced historically. Pair that with poor teacher retention and minimal applicants with experience, you'll likely have your hands full with training and chaos. How do we get ahead of this downhill trend and get our programs on the right track? This is a review of our intensive support program, discussing our program successes and lessons gained while implementing this strategic facilitation of self-contained classrooms. Our plan has a team application and utilizes collective IQ to enhance programming success with a continuum of supports and planning instruction, alongside behavior modification. When starting this program, the team will gather baseline information using identified "look-fors" and meet with the classroom teacher to gain insight on their areas of success and challenges. The team consists of one to two process coordinators and a BCBA, who will then explain goals of the program and what their support looks like. Our team has discovered ways to simplify the presentation of instructional work, easy data collection on goals, restructuring of current environment for safety, creation of reinforcement schedules, importance of visuals, and organization of scheduling with staff assignments for clear functionality throughout the day. When administrators, teachers, and support staff know the expectations, the more likely they are to be successful, inadvertently increasing student success. Join us to learn how to replicate this programming system in your self-contained classrooms and start the upward trend of teacher retention, training, and student growth.
