Using Data to Address Change: Root Cause Analysis Data Preparation (Room 206 A second floor)

IDEA regulations require local education agencies identified with significant disproportionality to determine and address factors contributing to the disproportionality. One way to identify contributing factors of significant disproportionality is through a root cause analysis (RCA), which is a systematic investigation of the contributing causes of problems that organizations or institutions face. A key element of the root cause analysis process is data preparation, which involves the identification and collection of a variety of high-quality data to be used for analysis. This critical step of data preparation provides teams with the necessary data for analysis, ultimately supporting informed decision-making when addressing contributing factors. Throughout this session, presenters will create opportunities for participants to learn about three primary steps for preparing data to conduct an effective root cause analysis: 1) Developing data-based leadership skills, 2) Identifying data needed to complete an RCA, and 3) Preparing data to complete a data analysis.
