WS12: Leadership Skills & Development Workshop - PAID SESSION (Room S401bc)

Good Leadership Is Key for Employee Retention
You spend a lot of time, money and effort to hire your employees – now you must figure out how to keep them. By participating in this program you will discover why the focus should be on employees who are doing things well, instead of the toxic workers who are sucking the life out of your company. By building your company's reputation as a great place to work, your most “poachable” employees won't be tempted to take their skills to your competition.

Transforming Others Through Effective Coaching
In this interactive session, participants will be introduced to the basics of coaching, as well as tips on how to motivate and communicate with peers and subordinates more productively. Ms. Clark will describe, and allow participants to practice, specific coaching tools to enhance their skills. According to four decades of scientific research on human motivation, there is a mismatch between what science knows and what business does to motivate others, and it affects every aspect of life. People who apply and practice the principles taught in this session will build more trust and understanding with peers and subordinates and be able to motivate others to increase overall workplace success. Ms. Clark will share the three elements of true motivation: autonomy, mastery and purpose, and offer smart and surprising techniques for putting these into action through effectively coaching others.

Delegation Strategies to Help You Be a More Effective Manager
Managing people is one of the most challenging and rewarding roles you can have. But, most managers have had little formal training for this critical role. This workshop will share 8 proven techniques for a more effective delegation. We will discuss: Why do we hesitate to delegate? Why do we take on too much work ourselves? How can I find the time to train some when it is faster and easier to do it myself?

Teach These Four Leadership Skills to Unlock the Potential of Your People and the Power of Your Organization
Even within the common ranks of a production crew or a management team, for instance, examples abound on how philosophies and strategies for listening, setting expectations, negotiating, and resolving disputes among employees or between management and staffers, differ and clash and cause operational and employee churn. The presenter has learned that consistently and periodically teaching, reinforcing, and standardizing these four key Leadership Skills (active listening, clarifying expectations, negotiation and conflict resolution) and advancing and strengthening these four skills at every level of your workforce embeds a sense of dignity, cooperation, tolerance, and collaboration in the operating culture and environment. Interestingly and not so surprisingly, impacts on production results, profitability, and employee satisfaction increase as skills in these core areas improve. This presentation provides business owners and managers a how-to plan for implementing a similar leadership development program.

Leadership Competencies, the Key to Understanding Leadership Success
Successful leadership is multifaceted, involving many things including vision, leading by example, establishing expectations and accountability, and ensuring people are successful. One area of leadership that does not receive sufficient attention, but is so critical to both individual and organizational success, is the concept of leadership competencies (LC). LC provides leaders with the key attributes needed to be successful, regardless of the position and role a person holds in an organization. This presentation will explain and discuss what LC are, and how to apply them across an organization to ensure high levels of performance and success.
