Often, in a 24x7 production environment, the shift-to-shift outcomes and yield, as well as overall operations effectiveness (OOE) or overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), depends on the leadership skills of a particular foreman, or the collective skills and strengths of a single crew. This presentation details a case study that presents a how-to for analyzing and identifying unique crew strengths in a core production process. Business owners and production leaders can learn how to synthesize and build a cross-crew, enterprise-wide set of best practices and ways of working for the core production functions. The outcomes of such an effort provide discrete and intangible benefits. Such an effort can produce: increased safety and operational effectiveness, equipment/production runability innovations, increased consistency and cross-crew production predictability, increased cross-crew communication and back-up role support, positive goal sharing and trouble-shooting interactions between crews, and deeper and more meaningful interactions between management and production staff.
