C38: Advancements in Powder Coating Materials - PAID SESSION (Room E353c)

Extreme Edge Coverage and Corrosion Protection
Corrosion protection at the sharp edges of parts is one of the biggest challenges for the coatings industry. Current two-coat technologies are costly, and difficulties still remain. Many customers seek a simpler, “one-coat” process. By using a multi-faceted approach to solve the edge corrosion issue, this method goes far beyond the typical flow restriction solution for edge coverage. This new direct-to-metal platform provides better corrosion protection. We will demonstrate through analytical methods how to cover metal edges at higher film builds for increased corrosion protection.

Latest Developments in Metallic Effect Powder Coatings
This session will present the manufacturing process of metallic effect powder coatings and how that impacts the application process. We will review the latest capabilities of effect pigments and what that means for performance and durability. Michael A. Withers - Axalta Coating Systems

Using Bio-based and Recycled Materials in the Powder Itself
As environmental and sustainability pressures continue to grow around the world, the coatings industry is looking at alternative sources of raw materials that are more sustainable and better for the planet and society. Plant-based resins offer a renewable alternative, reducing dependency on fossil fuel derivatives. In addition, plastic waste is a problem, plastic bottles and powder resins share a common foundation, are there ways to convert plastic to powder?
