Although it is assumed that hypoallergenic, tearless, and puppy shampoos are “mild” and can be interchangeable, these three products are formulated differently. Sensitivity to allergens has become more pronounced with social media. Although not ingested, grooming products need to consider allergies to glutens, peanut oils, fragrance, and preservative exposure to you as a groomer, pet parents, and the family pet. Many products claim to be hypoallergenic, but what elements need to be present to prevent your client’s animals from skin and eye irritations?
Animal testing is strongly discouraged, but what tests can be conducted to ensure that the shampoo you are using is safe for you and the family pet? The proper raw materials must be selected to reduce the risk to formulate a Puppy Shampoo versus a Tearless Shampoo. After attending this session, as a groomer, you will be able to properly answer questions from your clients and be able to properly differentiate between these three classes of shampoos.
