Tracks: AREMA Technical Sessions By Date- Communications & Signals, AREMA Technical Sessions By Functional Group- Communications & Signals, Technical Sessions By Day- Wednesday

This paper will address the history, theory of operation, technical considerations, and safety benefits of wireless avalanche detection. History – Review traditional wired slide fences. Theory of Operation – Describe the operation of wireless avalanche detection including some basic anomalies (for example failed communications, animal interaction, etc). Technical Considerations – Make the audience aware of some key considerations, including: maintenance, tower size, communications bandwidth, security, etc. Safety Benefits – Make note of the improved safety from wireless avalanche detection (for example, speed restriction enforcements for malfunctioning hardware, limited exposure during repairs, no need to disable portions of wired fence, etc). *Missed this Session or want to view it again?
