The coming decade offers numerous exciting opportunities for the development of offshore wind projects. The overall readiness of our ports sets the stage for successful implementation of these projects. Critical in the decision process is the information on the soil behavior as it is seen to have a major impact on construction of port areas which would include lay down yards, quayside infrastructure and harbor seabed improvements. Dredging activities may be required to support jack-up vessels and for the passage of large ships which necessitates geotechnical input. It is also vital to understand the impact of these proposed expansions on existing coastal defenses. This presentation focuses on the geotechnical aspects involved in the expanding and retrofitting our ports to handle new and evolving technologies in the offshore wind market in a changing environment.
