Digital Transformation in Abrasive Blasting
Digital transformation is the not wave of the future, it is the present. Digital transformation is finally available in maintenance and operations of often a very manual blasting process. New technology has been developed to monitor controls and processes digitally on many different levels from PLC Bluetooth integrations to abrasive blasting phone apps all helping customers improve uptime reliability and improved performance metrics. Digital transformation simply means getting the right technology in place that will solve your biggest problems in staffing, training, operations and maintenance aspects of the finishing process.

Incorporating Magnetic Inserts into Masking for Powder Coating
Masking is effective in protecting surfaces and holes of components that go through high-temperature finishing processes like powder coating. In special cases, some surfaces that need to be masked do not allow the mask to grip onto the component. Magnets are being inserted into the mold of masks to hold the two rubber parts together while the mask is on the component. Magnetic inserts, made of materials like samarium-cobalt, can withstand temperature ratings of 400 degrees Fahrenheit, and are influencing the evolution of masking. Magnetic inserts are especially useful for masking components with large surface areas or thick cross-sections. As the size of the mask increases, the mere weight on the matting or locking connector of the mask must retain hold as the component is on the finishing line.

Sanding and Polishing Robot Applications
Finishers likely are refinishers. Rework is almost always necessary to repair and/or repaint defective coatings. Small defects are polished out, major defects are sanded out and recoated. Manual sanding and polishing operations require skill. If done incorrectly they generate additional labor and scrap. This presentation highlights sanding and polishing robot cells and the benefits achieved from automating the process.
