Enhancement of RH Refractory Performance for Electrical Steel Processing (Room 319)

The present paper focuses on a systematic approach to understanding of the high wear rate and premature failure of RH inner vessel MgO-Cr2O3 refractory for electrical steel grades. The approach includes studying: • The operating conditions and slag-making practices for different grades processed. • The slag-refractory interaction mechanism in laboratory and plant conditions. • The impact of circulation rate on the wear rate of inner vessel refractory. • The structural stability of refractory components in vacuum and oxygen blowing. An optimum grade mix operation was designed for processing through the RH route that resulted in an increased average life from 45 to 80 heats.
