Telepresence robots are a revolutionary tool for those students who are not physically capable of attending school due to a health condition. As the popularity of these devices grows, schools may experience an increase in requests and inquiries related to their use in special education. Attorneys Rachel Hitch and Rachel Nicholas will explain how telepresence robots are being used, what potential legal issues arise with the use of (or refusal to use) telepresence robots, what limitations schools can place on these devices, and how to characterize these robots in an IEP. From recent case law, you’ll learn how hearing officers are interpreting this technology in the context of LRE and FAPE.
