Building a curriculum-based media festival celebrates authentic assessment and project-based learning and gives students ownership and pride in their accomplishments. Target all subject-areas and grades or pick an area of focus (examples: marine science, mathematics, STEM, community identity, AR/VR). Learn the nuts and bolts of several models from a longtime festival director and urban festival co-founder. This is a singular way of celebrating student (and teacher) success with benefits to deeper learning, self-esteem, and community. Students can build their own festivals. Choose from different K-12 models taking place now from whole states to small districts. They can be community-based, classroom-based, or curriculum-based. Think speeches, red carpet, proud parents, community engagement. See great K-12 student examples and take-away rubrics.
