In 2000, the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC) set out on a mission to ensure the safety of one of its most prized commodities — its nurses. As the size of the patient population was growing, nurses were becoming more exposed to risk of injury through the awkward postures and forces associated with patient handling. It was clear that equipment and training was needed to address these risks, and the UIHC Safe Patient Handling Committee was tasked with finding solutions. You’ll learn how the committee, with the guidance of one influential book, met this challenge and continues to do so with remarkable results.
