The showcase talk will highlight a new circular ARC source design that runs with high pulsed current densities, avoids the need for a mechanical trigger, and has a sweeping magnetic field over the target the surface. The combined effect of these innovations produces the usual very dense arc type coatings, but with the added benefit of much fewer and much smaller macro-particles within the deposited layers. Various layer structures will be shown as will the rates and distribution of the coating flux.
