94 - Making the Case for Contractor Management (Room 362C/F)

Managing contractor EHS performance is an ongoing concern among organizations of all industries as many contractors perform non-routine work at unsupervised sites. Host employers are often unaware of both the regulatory obligation to engage contractors and the various stakeholders’ concerns, resulting in misunderstanding, internal pushback and inefficient operations. Many companies hire prequalification companies to assist in contractor selection. While literature recommends prequalification as a best practice, little research exists to validate its impact on safety. In this session, we’ll discuss findings from a recent study conducted by the National Safety Council on BROWZ data, exploring the safety benefits of implementing contractor management and the effects on participating contractors’ safety outcomes.
