Half of all drive train issues are in the generator (based upon several GW's of wind turbines monitored from multiple manufacturers). Electrical issues such as broken rotor bars, loose wedges, electrically fluted bearings manifest them selves in very easy to measure vibration signatures. All of which are predictable months in advance of the actual failures.
