Speaker(s):
Suzette Gagnon, STEM Coordinator, Christ the King Catholic School;
Sue Pietrusza, Technology Integration Specialist/Assistant Principal, Christ the King Catholic School (Fla.)
I was the Chairman of the Steering Committee that resulted in Christ the King Catholic School becoming the first STREAM Certified school in the State of Florida from the Florida Catholic Conference. Being a small private school, we often face extra challenges. I would like to share with other educators and administrators the steps we took to achieve this designation and ultimately benefit our students. This presentation will include information about the duties of a STEM Coordinator, PLCs within the school, longitudinal classroom STEM projects, Integration of the Next Generation Science Standards, engineering in the classroom, technology integration, the importance of community stakeholders and more. The goal is to educate others and provide advice and examples of how to bring more STEM related activities and lessons into the classroom regardless of the school size. Together, we can reach the ultimate goal of creating learners prepared for the future.
