Oral bacteria have been implicated in correlation with a host of systemic diseases including heart disease and diabetes as well as many other chronic illnesses. By committing to an interdisciplinary approach to care we can be key stakeholders in facilitating our patients’ journey to whole body health. Attendees will explore the history of the oral-systemic link as well as periodontal disease and the mechanism of action for the association to chronic systemic illness. This course includes a review of the literature concerning the oral-systemic link and how to communicate those finding to our patients to facilitate whole body health. Using each member of dental team to educate the patient will also be discussed in this course.
