Course Description Dental professionals must re-examine how to treat pain and anxiety in this era of opioid crisis. This course is a comprehensive review of current research and applications to dentistry. THC, CBD, CBG, CBN and all the essential oils of the cannabis plant known as terpenes will be covered along with forms of administration, dosing and types of cannabis medicine with patient specific considerations. Therapeutic potential of cannabis will be examined including pain management, psychological aspects of pain management application, topical uses for anti-microbial and anti-fungal along with potential chairside use to replace nitrous oxide, opioids and NSAIDS. Cannabis use in the TMD patient as well as other various orofacial pain entities will be discussed. Case studies will be utilized to demonstrate efficacy and applications for cannabis in the general practice.
