Possibilities for Modeling, Simulation and Optimization of CHP Plant EL-TO Zagreb (Room A)

CHP plant EL-TO Zagreb consists of four cogeneration units and three auxiliary boilers that produce district heat, process steam and electricity. The primary purpose of the power plant is district heating and supply of steam to industrial consumers, but it also produced a significant amount of electricity in the past. Relatively high natural gas prices and low electricity prices, imposed imperative to seek effective measures which ensure meeting the district heat and process steam demand at the lowest operating costs. Paper outlines latest achievements through installation of economizers in the common flue gas channel of boilers K6, VK3 and VK4, in the flue gas channel of HP boiler K9 and in the flue gas channel of HRSG's UT1 and UT2. This measure has enabled 3,48% plant efficiency increase and has been implemented with a return of investment of 3 months. Conducted measurements prove that additional output of installed economizers reaches 15 MWt. In order to simulate the plant performance with newly installed equipment, a plant model in EBSILON®Professional is developed. Performance optimization is conducted in order to identify optimal plant configuration and operating parameters for meeting the district heat and process steam demand at the lowest operating costs. Developed model will also serve as a basis for analysis of possibilities for further flue gas temperature decrease respectively for identification of other measures for plant efficiency increase.
