Samcheok Green Power 4 x 550 MWe Ultra-Supercritical CFBs in South Korea – Design, Start-up and Early Operating Experiences (Room Rheinsaal 2)

As a latest step in Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) technology development, Amec Foster Wheeler is supplying four 550 MWe (gross megawatt electric) ultra-supercritical circulating fluidized-bed (CFB) steam generators for the Samcheok Green Power Project for Korea Southern Power Co., Ltd. (KOSPO). Contract includes the design and supply of four 550 MWe advanced vertical tube, once-through ultra-supercritical CFB steam generators feeding two steam turbines. The CFB steam generators are designed to burn coal mixed with biomass while meeting the stringent environmental requirements. Hot commissioning of these CFB units was started in 2016. When entering into commercial operation, these units will be the most advanced CFB’s providing KOSPO with a new level of fuel flexibility, reliability and environmental performance. When considering either new plants or repowering old plants, the high efficiency proven CFB technology offers excellent solutions for utility-scale applications. Based on experiences from Lagisza (world’s first CFB 460MWe with supercritical steam parameters taken into commercial operation in Poland in 2009), Novocherkasskaya (330MWe with supercritical steam parameters in Russia) and Samcheok CFBs, Amec Foster Wheeler currently offers commercially CFB technology with supercritical/ultra-supercritical steam parameters up to scale 800 MWe. The paper presents the design, start-up and early operation experiences of Samcheok Green Power 4x550 MWe CFB boilers.
