FDIC 2019

Firefighter Rescue Operations and Dealing with the Emotional Aftermath (Room 234-235)

Firefighter rescue can be a simple grab and go or a prolonged and complicated extrication. Either way, being trained in firefighter rescue skills and being proficient at them are musts to even become close at being successful at rescuing our own. In addition, being involved in a firefighter down event can be very traumatic and stay with you for the rest of your life, becoming troublesome if you don’t know how to deal with your feelings. This workshop provides best practices for rescuing firefighters from dwellings on fire and dealing with the emotions afterward. The focus will be on modern rapid intervention team (RIT) protocols/procedures, firefighter rescue training programs, building props, command and RIT officer presence, and your feelings after the event and how to overcome and deal with them. This workshop promises to be an in-depth look into the inner workings of a firefighter rescue and discussion on the post-traumatic stress that follows.
