Truck Company Operations without the Truck (Room 125-126)

Tracks: Truck Company

This class focuses on decision making based on the needs on the scene for departments that are short-staffed and do not have a truck company responding. A majority of U.S. fire departments are engine company based. Some may have a truck company responding mutual aid. Firefighters responding in engines in departments without a truck company still have to carry out the jobs of the truck company. These responders must be trained in the positions, tasks, and tactics that support the engine such as search and vent-enter-search. At a fire, there must be a plan for pulling the line, pulling the line and searching or starting a search without a hoseline, throwing ground ladders to occupants on upper floors requiring rescue, and opening up the structure. The attack and search cannot begin until forcible entry is performed. Ventilation and smoke reading will also be discussed in detail.
