The Three Degrees of Mayday (Room 240-242)

This class is centered around three categories or situations firefighters can find themselves in that could result in a Mayday. Not every Mayday is the same; consequently, not every rapid intervention team (RIT) operation will be the same. The RIT needs to prepare for various urgent and dangerous situations of increasing difficulty. A single firefighter lost in a house fire may be handled adequately by a four-person RIT with little other assistance. A three-person engine company crew that experiences a loss of water or sudden flashover will necessitate a larger and more robust RIT operation along with additional logistical support. The collapse of a burning building that traps six firefighters in a two-story burning pile of debris will need an even more complex response. Learn a new perspective on Mayday and RIT operations and how to handle any Mayday situation with confidence.
