Technology and Emergency Response (Room 236-237)

12 Apr 19
8:30 AM - 10:15 AM

Tracks: Emerging Technologies

The focus is on cognitive psychology principles associated with technology-assisted emergency response. Operational shortfalls associated with cognitive deficits are covered, followed by case studies involving autopilots and self-driving car accidents. Lessons learned and proposed design imperatives are discussed as a means to avoid potentially catastrophic pitfalls derived from over-reliance on technology for risk mitigation. Development trends in the unmanned system/robotics realm and an optimistic fusion of technology with human resilience in the face of future calamity and disaster response are also discussed.
