Power generating facilities can now be equipped to generate vast amounts of data on equipment health & behaviour and performance. Using digital technologies, we can acquire knowledge from this data and through intelligent analysis boost their health & performance. A 30 over years old 2x300 MW coal-fired power plant recently went through modernization with the latest DCS control system. The new integrated DCS, covers all different control and auxiliary monitoring systems providing an integrated control and monitoring system for boiler, turbine and balance of plant. The precise control of the main plant parameters, enables each unit to operate at high level of efficiency, reliability and availability. As part of the modernization process the plant is installed with enhanced information system & plant optimizing solutions. The complete plant operational information is now integrated and made available to the stake holders of the plant in the plant and management offices in headquarters. The DCS system comes with VSE (Virtual Support Engineer) services which enables experts to support the customer continuously without physical presence of engineer at site. These services through secured connectivity completely eliminate risks related to cyber security and provides flexibility to regularly monitor the health of the plant. The system also allows the experts to handle any emergency effectivity. The digitalization helps in identifying and preventing developing equipment faults, decreasing maintenance cost, improving system performance and reducing or eliminating costly downtime. It supports Remote Troubleshooting, Remote Periodic and Remote Continuous Monitoring This paper will discuss each of the digital implementation and how it benefits customers in the long run.
