The #2 Yeosu oil power plant has lower efficiency compared to top of the line power plant because of design based in 1960. The #2 Yeosu power plant retrofit project has been initiated at May 2009, in order to response to extend boiler life cycle, improve the economy, as well as satisfy changing international energy environment. As a results, at September 2011, the boiler was replaced to circulating fluidized bed(CFB) boiler that is the biggest capacity of Korea, which its operating cost was relatively inexpensive and environment friendly coal fired power plant But after commercial operation, we had to shut down the boiler every 3month for maintenance, because of tube erosion and too high bed temperature etc. We went through trial and error. The following is a list of typical items upon which performance should had reached during the initial overhaul phase of a modification of an existing unit. (a) Replacement of eroded boiler tube (b) Change location of coal feeder (C) Replacement of damaged boiler refractory Even thought in an effort to Improve boiler in 1st modification period, the problem of boiler still not solved, moreover, it cause another boiler equipment problem. So, we planed to attempt 2nd modification to resolve fundamental issues. We held numerous meeting with experts about CFBC boiler and performed CFD(computational fluid dynamics) for the modification Validity. The following is a list of typical items upon which performance should had reached during 2nd modification. (a) The predominant circulation of bed material (b) The cyclone efficiency improvement (c) The ideal arrangement of the coal feeder As a result, the outage period has been shorten innovatively, and it marks an epoch in CFBC boiler History of Korea. So, we want to spread our experiences to anyone who has a problem with the fluidized bed boiler in the world.
