The key focus of this paper are the following topics: • solutions to retrofit an modern high performance DeNOx system into an existing boiler with limited space; • key requirements to ensure high performance and safe operation; • advanced solutions to ensure best performance at lowest operation cost; • anhydrous ammonia, ammonia water and urea, which reagent to choose; These topics are outlined in case studies of DeNOx systems installed in cost completive countries (China & Taiwan). Focus is on gas turbines and cogeneration boilers with successful long-term operation experience and minimum operation and maintenance cost. The case studies specifically pay attention on the challenges of retrofitting a high performance DeNOx technology into an existing boiler with limited space by minimizing boiler shut down period. They also highlight important design factors and technical solutions to ensure reliable operation with low maintenance needs and cost. Special attention will be given on how “Zero Emission” can be achieved with advanced conventional technologies and what is the resulting the cost impact. Where are the technical limitations by using an SCR system in gas or coal fired applications and what is practical feasible. In addition, Yara as one of the world largest ammonia/urea producer, will propose advantages and disadvantages of anhydrous ammonia, ammonia water and urea as reagent. Special attention is paid to the operational aspects, such as handling and safety.
