21 Sep 17
9:00 AM - 10:30 AM

Tracks: Track E - Integration, Storage and Distributed Generation

Among the different energies available for power plants, Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) is considered as one of the favorite, both for present and future applications. Key aspects of LNG as powering energy are safety, economics, environment and overall project feasibility including supply chain topics. The proposed conference paper will outline the essentials and give an outlook with specific consideration for Asian countries. Since most of the Asian countries are developing on a high pace, their energy demand is increasing and this in various places, different needs and applications. . Whereas piped gas is available only in certain areas and countries, LNG is the logical alternative. LNG as primary energy has the obvious advantage of being able to be transported anywhere & stored locally. However, LNG is a cryogenic liquid, at about -160° Celsius. The storage and handling of LNG requires specific technics. The associated risks are different from the previous, and have to be addressed. This paper will give an overview of the existing solutions and will further present their evolutions and different available solutions for the needs of power plants. Specific advantages or disadvantages, Floating and land-based solutions will be shown. Sizes from small to very large will be discussed and presented, solutions for offshore-, near-shore and harbor-solutions for the floating area will be shown. The different existing LNG storage technologies are explained, safety issues will be discussed in connection with applicable rules, and economic considerations outlined. Photos, illustrations and drawings of concepts and existing projects will ease the understanding and complete the paper. The auditorium is expected to be composed of engineers and commercial managers with technical understanding and interest.
