This presentation will discuss the story of Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo’s voyage of discovery in 1542, set within the context of world events, and how this voyage ultimately became the “origin story” of California. The talk will continue with the Maritime Museum of San Diego’s own project of researching, designing, and constructing a full-scale operational galleon of the 16th century as well as her mission in the future.
