What if a client wants to “friend” the counselor on Facebook? What are the considerations when a counselor wants to search a client on the Internet? What if a client wants to post a “selfie” with his counselor on his Facebook page? This proposal presents emerging ethical dilemmas in the area of social media, especially Facebook, with a focus on privacy, boundaries, and informed consent. Real-life digital dilemmas encountered with the use of Facebook are discussed in each of these three areas. Guidelines are proposed.
