DATA ANALYTICS: PUTTING SMART GRID DATA TO WORK (Room C148)

04 May 16
3:15 PM - 5:15 PM

Tracks: Panel Session

One of the major aspects of the ongoing grid modernization toward smart grids is the wide spread deployment of dispersed measurement, monitoring and actuation devices. High-speed, fully integrated, two-way communication technologies make the grid dynamic and transitive for real-time information and power exchange, creating a near plug-and-play environment. The deployment of smart devices and communication technologies enable the introduction of powerful data analytic capabilities, such as state estimation in distribution systems, momentary outage detection, unbalance monitoring or proactive asset management. However, there are several challenges associated with the data analytics tools, such as in the data collection process. In this panel, the benefits and barriers of data analytics in distribution systems will be elaborated.
