Abstract:
Solution Deposition Systems, Inc. (SDS) was founded on the concept that the advanced materials that enable modern semiconductor and optoelectronic technology don't necessarily have to be expensive or environmentally damaging to produce. That is why SDS is focused on developing technology for synthesizing materials the same way nature often does, from aqueous (water) solution. We ask, why must manufacturers use rare expensive materials, hazardous solvents, lasers, or high energy plasma when smart chemistry and equipment design can enable safe, common chemicals and hot water to produce materials with similar or better performance?
SDS is currently focused on developing chemistry and equipment for aqueous solution epitaxy of zinc oxide layers. Doped ZnO layers grown by this process display optical and electrical properties that provide a transparent conductive oxide (TCO) figure merit exceeding that of state of the art vapor deposited Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) TCO layers. We believe that the excellent TCO performance coupled with reduced capital equipment and materials costs, as well as ease of patterning by top-down and bottom –up approaches, make these ZnO materials an excellent alternative TCO for use in GaN optoelectronic devices.
