Why do suicide bombers detonate? Why do teenagers leave home to join terrorist cells of a religious group with which they have no affiliation? This talk will explore the nature of mind control as it relates to the new frontier of cult membership, as well as the tactics used by cults and other new religious movements to recruit and retain members. The influence of cults on vulnerable populations will be highlighted, along with informal assessment methods that gauge cult affiliation. In addition, it will address strategies for combating mind control of all types, religious or otherwise.
