This physicalistic theory of consciousness also explains the origin and many of the practices, features and results of spirituality. The theory proposes that the human brain contains two conscious entities — the language consciousness and the primary consciousness. The hypothesis is that spirituality (and religion) would originate when the language representational system became conscious around 50K to 100K years ago. This was the time when language became a complete representational system. The language consciousness corresponds to "man," the primary consciousness to "God" and the goal of spirituality (and enlightenment) would be to unify these two conscious entities.
