HydroVision International 2015

Session 7D: What's Working, What's Not? Update on Federal Efforts to Increase Hydropower at Existing Dams (Room B113)

Federal agencies recognize that the addition of renewable hydropower at non-powered dams is both sustainable and desirable. Studies were conducted and memorandums of understanding were prepared to increase federal agency cooperation with the private sector in order to add sustainable hydropower at existing federal infrastructure. Panelists will present case studies of successful, and unsuccessful, projects. The panel will address such questions as: Are the MOUs helping or hindering this development? What additions or changes would accelerate the deployment of sustainable hydropower? Are the barriers coming down? What policy and regulatory changes would accelerate development in an environmentally and socially sound manner? Can project schedules be shortened by cooperation and reduction of process, red tape and duplicative reviews?
