A mill environment presents dangers that are unlike any other. Wireless remote control provides the flexibility to gain a better perspective of the work at hand, while allowing the operator resources to be more efficient, more productive and safer. The use of wireless technology is still in the nascent stages of implementation in mill environments. The benefits, however, are many: ergonomic controls at the ready for the user; fewer wires and cables to run and maintain; industry standard solutions that exceed the minimum requirements for the job; better use of resources — both human and machine. The authors will present installations of wireless remote control as case studies where the safety and security of the worker/workload are saving costs and increasing productivity.
