AUVSI's Unmanned Systems 2016

Unmanned Maritime Vehicles: Decoding the Alphabet Soup and Enjoying the Systems Stew (Room 278-282)

This panel session is intended to provide a snapshot of the entire unmanned maritime vehicle (UMV) spectrum. It will focus upon three main categories:

Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) - those systems that work at the surface of the ocean
Unmanned Undersea Vehicles (UUVs) conventional - those systems that use propellers  to operate under the surface of the ocean, much like traditional submarines
Unmanned Undersea Vehicles (UUVs) unconventional - those systems that do not operate like conventions submarines through powered forward propulsion, these may include buoyancy gliders, hovering AUVs and other such specialty systems

The panel will begin with an overview of the types and categories of UMVs in use. It will also briefly describe the mission areas these systems are currently serving as well as the potential applications under consideration. The overview will be followed by technical/mission experts in each category. These experts will provide further details on the current state of the art as well as actual results from field use cases.

This panel is intended to help those new to the UMV sector obtain a broad understanding of the technologies and applications, but through the presentation of current technical and operational results from the technical experts it should also be of interest to experienced UMV professionals.
