Over the past five years, pet specialty retail has seen a shift towards "Premiumization" of pet food. This strong trend has been driven by pet owners' focus on their pet's health as well as their own, a very consistent increase in average price-per-pound for pet food and a larger social trend toward natural and organic products. We'll examine the five-year growth in natural, grain-free and raw premium products, as well as emerging pet retail trends that support continued growth in this area-such as the entry of broadly distributed brands into the premium pet food category.
