Tracks: Theme: Europe's Transitioning Power Sector

The present and the new future will change the energy industry at its core. The rise of renewable energy is leading to a massive shift in the merit order, making some conventional power plants commercially unviable. At the same time, no viable market models are in sight that would offer sufficient incentives for producing the new energy generation capacities required today. The energy infrastructure is subject to increasing regulation. Decentralized production means higher complexity in grid operations. The traditional consumer business has also become inherently dynamic. Revenue lost to independent producers and increasing competition for clients are just two of the many signs for this. Established players from other industries are establishing themselves more and more aggressively in aspects of the value chain and capturing market share with often innovative business models. This Situation is having a twofold effect on traditional energy producers and service providers: - Increasingly ambiguous decisions - Increasing pressure on margins in the business areas Identifying and selecting the urgently necessary strategies and processes and, on the other hand the need to change the corporate and management cultures of the affected European energy companies, that are the key success factors for the future. This presentation gives an overview on possible solutions for setting up sustainable organizational structures for the energy industry. The main question is: How can the executive management change themselves and the business strategy to master the structural market change, and what are the innovative experiences concerning approach to organization of professional and management staff in many companies of the energy industry.
