Helping the Public Understand the Environmental Benefits of Rail (Room 208-209)

This paper and presentation will help non-environmental rail employees and the public understand the environmental benefits from using rail to ship the materials that keep our economy moving forward. This information can be used by rail companies to help the public better understand why materials are shipped by rail through their hometowns, and how the rail companies are working with their local fire departments to ensure they are safe from rail accidents. The information can also help non-environmental rail employees understand why it is important for them to work with their environmental staff and keep the rail company in compliance with environmental regulations, even though sometimes this may cost time and money.
