This presententation surveys the cultural and business landscape from which niche perfumery originated, including its subsequent category splintering. Bulliqi will discuss what consumer behavior and shifts in scent culture over the last twenty years can tell us about the future of niche perfumery in terms of brand marketing, perfumers’ creative output, olfactory preferences, and the public’s interpretation and appreciation of perfumery.

As consumers desire greater meaning for their fragrances through olfactory art and transparency of the supply chain, the industry is challenged with using this zeitgeist for more impactful storytelling, and whether it is possible for perfume to uphold its elevated status and imbue a rich artistic experience.
