Understanding and Extending the Life of a Wind Turbine Support Structure (Room Sunset IV - V)

With over 74,000 installed utility scale wind turbines in the US alone, more than a third of these turbines are over ten years old. As wind towers and foundations age, structural integrity may be called into question. As well, turbine upgrades, longer blades and power enhancements will require another look at the loading and structural capabilities of the tower and foundation. End of warranty, insurance and asset valuations may also require analysis and evaluation of wind turbine structural integrity.
