National CleanUp Day Announces Return on September 21
Millions across the U.S. will participate and help beautify their communities in the third annual National CleanUp Day
DENVER, CO (June 18, 2019) – National CleanUp Day is a non-profit organization, created by co-founders Steve Jewett and Bill Willoughby to answer the question, “What would the world be like if everyone picked up at least one piece of litter?”
Last year nearly two million people answered the call and participated in the second annual National CleanUp Day in cities, beaches, parks, and trails across the country. On September 21, National CleanUp Day will return for year three, and expects the participation of over 3 million volunteers thanks to the rapid growth and enthusiasm behind the new green holiday.
Taking place on the third Saturday every September, National CleanUp Day was founded to rally communities to better our environment by collaborating with their neighbors. National CleanUp Day creates partnerships at the local level for the annual one-day event to clean up our nation. Cleanups in September will be held in all 50 states and US territories, in settings from rural to urban and everywhere in-between. Any individual, group or organization can start their own cleanup by simply going to the National CleanUp Day site and signing up.
National CleanUp Day’s purpose is to assist in promoting a clean outdoors for all, and creating a call to action to help mobilize communities to beautify their areas. The event will help clean the country, and also connect people and strengthen the relationships of volunteers and grassroot organizations in neighborhoods big and small.
National CleanUp Day is made possible by a vast network of community-based volunteer groups leading the charge. Partners in National CleanUp Day include the Earth Day Network and Keep America Beautiful.

The work of course does not end in September. Earth Day Network is continuing their partnership with National CleanUp Day and Keep America Beautiful for their Great Global Cleanup in 2020, a worldwide cleanup throughout April 2020 to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.
