Oslo named European Green Capital 2019

The EU awarded the prize to Oslo for its environmental efforts. The Norwegian capital was the top-scoring city in eight of 12 categories in the final, including air quality and solutions for transportation.

European Green Capital is selected annually by the European Commission, which gives the award to a city that has a consistent record of achieving high environmental standards, is committed to ongoing and ambitious goals for further environmental improvement and sustainable development, and can act as a role model to inspire other cities and promote best practices to all other European cities.

Governing Mayor Raymond Johansen accepted the award on behalf of Oslo in the German city of Essen, this year's European Green Capital.

Oslo is the tenth city to receive the prize, and beat Ghent, Tallinn, Lisbon and Lahti in the final. Among the former winners are Stockholm and Copenhagen.
