NEW YORK, February 3, 2018—Each print begins with a set of hand-carved wooden blocks. Created by only the most accomplished master craftsmen, each block in a set prints a different color. All of the blocks in a set must be carved precisely so that they will align correctly when printed together.
Based in Jaipur, India, Anokhi’s designers work closely with their talented craftspeople to create fresh new prints throughout the year using traditional printing and dyeing methods. Rachel Bracken-Singh, Anokhi’s head designer and the founder of the Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing, describes her work saying, “Sustaining employment for well over 1500 craftspeople and workers in a rapidly changing world is our key goal.”
Anokhi sells a broad selection of hand-printed items, including cotton-filled quilts, table linens, clothing, sleepwear, scarves, and sarongs. All of their items are printed on 100% cotton, and most of their products are printed on a very fine cotton voile.

About ANOKHI
Anokhi has been actively preserving the art of woodblock printing for more than 50 years. Founded by John and Faith Singh in the late 1960s in order to rescue the art from a growing prevalence of cheap machine-printed goods in the Indian marketplace, Anokhi creates fresh, original prints with an eye to the global marketplace.
Melanie Vogel fell in love with Anokhi prints while living in Saudi Arabia in the 1980s. She and a friend met Faith through a mutual acquaintance and they soon began selling Anokhi wares to expat women in Riyadh at the equivalent of Tupperware parties. When she moved back to the United States in the late 80s she took the business with her and had several brick and mortar locations in Massachusetts for many years. Eventually, she moved her business online.
In the mid-1990s, Melanie sent the daughter of a family friend to Anokhi. Gabrielle was writing her college thesis on Indian woodblock printing and used Anokhi as a base for her research. After finishing college Gabrielle returned to Anokhi and worked as a print designer there. Today Gabrielle is the photographer and graphic designer for Anokhi USA.
