Wellness experts acclaim the ancient tradition of copper-infused water. Studio Coppre launches its Lean Carafe: a modern take on its earlier Bedside Carafe

Modern day wellness experts are vetting the benefits of the ancient traditional practice of ‘tamrajal’ or  drinking water in a copper container. Studio Coppre, a Pune-based design studio working with heritage metal crafts has designed contemporary carafes to reinterpret the traditional practice to make it relevant, both in terms of design and utility.

Founder and Designer Rashmi Ranade on the launch of the new carafe says “Our carafes are carriers of culture. We took the ancient practice of drinking water, the heritage handcrafting process and the artisanal skills and presented the drinking of copper-infused water in a new avatar with our carafes”.

The Lean Carafe comes in a clean finish with two utilities rolled into one: sleek water carafe-to store water and two tumblers to drink from. Can be kept by the bedside, on the kitchen counter or a dining table and inside the refrigerator. It has been handcrafted by artisans using materials and processes that are gentler to mother earth.

Our first carafe, the Bedside Carafe was and still is a novelty. This Carafe came in a sleek design, compact, just enough for one or maybe two people. Designed to suit smaller families and an individual culture. It won the World Craft Council Excellence Award and was featured in Phaidon Press’s 200 classic Indian objects and has won many accolades.

Copper-infused water is a process of charging drinking water by storing water for 8-10 hours. According to Ayurveda, the process is said to infuse copper with water and has innumerable health benefits. Copper as a material also is recyclable and not harmful to human health and the environment.
