NEW YORK, NY February 4, 2019 - Recently launched JG SWITZER, a California-based design workshop creating fine fibers for the well dressed home is set to debut its HERITAGE SHEEP COLLECTION at NY NOW today.
Just as record polar vortex temperatures bring on one of the coldest snaps across the USA, wool reminds us it nature’s warmest, all natural, and 100% sustainable miracle fiber. JG SWITZER mills its woolen fabric from sheep on the Livestock Conservancy “at risk” heritage sheep list, and has named its collection after heritage breeds in order to raise awareness for small, domestic flocks. Many of the pieces in the collection are named for the breeds in order to bring awareness to sheep people may not know exist: The Shetland, Blue Faced Leicester.
“Would you settle for just one kind of grape for your wine?” asks JG SWITZER founder and wool “painter,” Jessica Switzer Green. “Why settle for one kind of wool when you can have all kinds of beautiful wool in your home from sheep breeds that deserve attention?” Green “paints” her designs in collaboration with designer Melanie Martin to create a one-of-a-kind wool fabric that the JG SWITZER incorporates into rustic modern blankets throws, bed and sofa runners, and a collection of nine styles and 22 pieces. A Heritage breed on the Livestock Conservancy list means there are often less than 2,000 animals of that breed in the world. Similar to an endangered species list for domestic animals, the list includes cows, chickens, goats as well as sheep.
