Nicolette Mayer, acclaimed textile and wallpaper designer introduces an inspiring, new placemat and fine linen collection at NY NOW

New York , NY. - January 31, 2019 - Textile and wallpaper visionary, Nicolette Mayer, brings her luxury statement designs to the table at NY Now, New York’s premier tradeshow for home and gift merchandise. Her newest venture delivers a mélange of fine linens and placemats to entertaining enthusiasts who covet dynamic designs that will elevate tablescapes from standard to chic.

Mayer’s collection launched after Traditional HomeSenior Style Editor Krissa Rossbund named Nicolette the subject of her entertaining column for an issue in 2017. After discovering Nicolette’s larger-than-life motifs in Paris, Rossbund encouraged her to expand her product offering from textiles and wallpaper to table accessories. Enterthe firstNicolette Mayer table collection. Rossbund used Mayer’s artistic patterns as the springboard for two Traditional Home features—one with Nicolette, and another with Los Angeles-based celebrity designer, Lonni Paul. “The fresh-and-graphic windmill pattern from the Nicolette Mayer Collection drove the multicoloredpalette,” says Rossbund of her editorial feature. “Nicolette’s sensibility merges bold with quiet, and that unique formula results in beauty that is daring, but with an edited hand.”

Motivated by the positive response from Traditional Home readers and the design community, Nicolette embarked on styling captivating patterns for the tabletop category, all which are manufactured in the United States from the finest materials — pure sheer Belgian linen for the dinner and cocktail napkins and 100% hand woven grass cloth for the placemats. Available in round, square, and rectangular shapes, the artisanal placemats are handmade of woven grass cloth on metallic paper with eco-friendly, water-soluble inks and biodegradable materials. Each piece is printed, cut, glued and sewn, so that no two are exactly alike. They are also finished with an innovative, stain-resistant coating for protection. The Belgian linen napkins are printed with eco-friendly inks and finished for crispness and softness.

As with her textile and wallpaper goods, the patterns in the Nicolette Mayer tabletop collection offer a fresh interpretation of iconic, historically significant designs. Mayer explains, “A historian by training, I approach design utilizing both aesthetic passion and historical fascination. Colors that are fresh and current blend with themes that date back hundreds, and sometimes thousands of years.” There are 200 and colors in Mayer’s new collection, each with a specific point of view. “I love the idea of having placements and napkins with nuanced patterns that transport one to a place of fantasy and imagination,” says Mayer.

Once a fashion designer, Mayer’s signature motifs serve as “fashion” for the table. Regence Reduxis a fresh, reinterpretation of iconic 19th century French wallpaper houses. It references the aesthetic of filmmaker Sofia Coppola’s period film, Marie Antoinette, where historically accurate motifs mix with contemporary views fora dreamy experience of French Regency. BlossomChinoiserie

evokes beauty and tranquility with its contemporary iteration of the ancient tradition of hand-painted plum and cherry blossoms. Mayer’s lauded Royal Delft depicts classic Dutch pottery patterns and massages the motifs into an updated approach to beloved blue-and-white. The Ottoman Fantasy collection reimagines Topkapi Place, Iznik pottery, and grand palace carpets.

Mayer encourages mixing and matching. “I love to combine a group of similarly colored placemats to reflect the season or a particular mood.,” she says. “It’s the same concept as mixing throw pillows for texture and layering. This is what modern-day styling is all about.” Augmenting the tabletop assortment is Mayer’s hand-painted python napkin rings — which finish a table scape with extraordinary pizazz.

The Nicolette Mayer tabletop collection presents a new and unique approach to the luxury tabletop arena. Its accoutrement attracts the most discerning hostess with an impeccable eye for design. The myriad of colors and patterns offer enchanting design possibilities.
