2019 NY NOW® Winter

Announcing TWIN, a new fine jewelry line

TWIN, an exciting collaboration between identical twins Ronni and Marina Kappos, is a fine line of jewerly entering the marketplace this Fall.  It combines Marina’s painting expertise with Ronni’s jewelry design.  Marina sources all of the rough stone and then each piece is handcut and framed in 14 karat gold.  The intricate patterns and painterly marks on the stones mean that the pendants are one-of-a-kinds and because of the innovative setting, they are reversible, full of expressive strokes and colored texture on each side.

Ronni is known for her beloved vintage beaded line of jewelry, I. Ronni Kappos. She launched the line in 1997 at Barneys New York Co-op and it has since earned a reputation as a recognizable, unique collection that is carried by museum stores around the world.  Every season is inspired and reinvented by an evolving collection of German, vintage beads from the 1920s, 30s and 40s.

Marina earned her MFA at Yale University in Painting and then began showing in galleries in New York, Los Angeles, and internationally.  She often travels the world making work at residencies and exploring space through large scale installation painting.

The sisters have now come together to unite their interests in mixed patterns and design.  Many people have remarked on the parallels between their work already, since both twins create flat, graphic shapes and stories within their respective mediums. Because of this symbiotic relationship in their tastes and approach to art, it seemed only a matter of time before the sisters began working together.  Ronni helps create evocative, geometric motifs that are based on the classic beaded shapes from her original line, while Marina uses her painterly eye and sense of color to build unexpected combinations in stone.  It is an exploration into jewlery as a new kind of exquisite canvas.
